How you can help
This is a call to action to all individuals and businesses who share the vision for a new and improved Ski-Hi Regional Event and Conference Center that will benefit the entire south-central region. We all have memories of events we attended at Ski-Hi Park, whether the Ski-Hi Stampede Rodeo and Concerts, the Monte Vista Crane Festival, the San Luis Valley Fair, or one of the many other community events that have taken place there through the years. The current facility has served us well, but it has seen better days and now has safety issues that must be addressed. Friends of Ski-Hi Park in collaboration with the City of Monte Vista have concluded that the most efficient way to move forward with the funds available is to demolish the current facility and build a new, modern center to meet the current and future needs of the San Luis Valley community and the entire south-central region.
Our aim is to fund the construction of the new building primarily with support from foundations and other entities such as the Colorado Department of Local Affairs (DOLA). However, to obtain grants from DOLA and foundations, it is important that the community believes in the project and is invested in it as well.
Thus, Friends of Ski-Hi Park is seeking to raise 5 to 10 percent of the total construction costs to use as a match for grant applications. The plan also includes in-kind services for a large portion of the demolition from contractors, several have already committed to helping.
Our goal is to raise at least $875,000 from SLV community members, facility users, and businesses; even more if we can.
We need your help to raise these funds. This is an Enterprise Zone Tax Credit qualified project. This means that donors will benefit from a Colorado charitable contribution deduction as well as an Enterprise Zone Tax Credit which is 25 percent for cash contributions and 12.5 percent for in-kind contributions. Please see the more detailed information regarding Enterprise Zone tax credits in the attached information sheet. Please visit with your accountant about your individual tax situation. Note that the minimum contribution to receive an Enterprise Zone tax credit is $100.00
Commitments received to date toward our $875,000 goal can be found on the Funding Thermometer page
Foundations to which we plan to apply for the majority of the funding include:
Anschuz Foundation Boettcher Foundation Adolph Coors Foundation
Daniels Fund El Pomar Foundation Gates Family Foundation
Trinchera Blanca Foundation Robert Rawlings Foundation Others TBD
Friends of Ski Hi has secured a $2,000,000 pledge to the project from the Outcalt Foundation.

The City of Monte Vista (City) and Friends for Ski Hi Park (Friends) are working collaborative to build a new multi-use event and conference center where the present multi-purpose building and swimming pool are located at Ski Hi Complex in Monte Vista.
Funders and donors will have various reasons to give, and may require a non-profit to receive the funds, or require the funds to be given to the City of Monte Vista.
The Monte Vista Community Fund (Community Fund), a 501(c)3, has agreed to be the fiscal agent for Friends of Ski Hi. The Community Fund has opened a separate bank account titled “Ski Hi Multi-Purpose Building Improvement Committee” at Rio Grande Savings and Loan in Monte Vista. These funds are for the sole purpose of completing the above referenced project. The funds in this account are not co-mingled with any other funds that the Community Fund is over-seeing or manages. This account currently has funds from the Outcalt Foundation from two separate grants – construction drawings and construction.
The City will also set up a separate bank account at Rio Grande Savings and Loan to make deposit and pay invoices for the construction phase work completed on the project. It will be designated for a capital improvement project at Ski Hi Park in some manner. It is understood that anyone wanting Enterprise Zone tax credit must deposit the funds with the City in this account.
The City will make payment to all vendors and see that bills for construction work are paid timely after invoices are submitted.
Friends of Ski Hi and the Community Fund will disperse funds to the City when needed.
The groups will coordinate on giving each other copies of funder and donor checks, and any bills that are paid so that each group has a complete copy of revenue and expenses for the construction phase of the project.
